Call it The Spandex Singularity — an unprecedented concentration of super-star superhero properties, resulting from the intensifying geek takeover of pop culture. This year gives Fox’s X-Men: First Class, a reboot (in prequel form) of the franchise that helped launch the modern era of superhero cinema back in 2000. Then come three new properties that will try to expand the category’s horizons: Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, both from Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures, and Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds. Next year: The heavyweights. The Wolverine. The Amazing Spider-Man. The Avengers. The Dark Knight Rises. And then, capping the year, an as-yet-untitled movie that will try to restore the king of all the superheroes to his pop glory: Superman.

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly previews the onslaught of box office super-friends about to descend upon us — and it also brings you the first interview with British actor Henry Cavill (The Tudors) since director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and producer Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) tapped him to become Hollywood’s newest Man of Steel. Among the topics of discussion: Cavill’s audition, which included shooting a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s once impressive, now dated Superman suit. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off,” says Snyder, ‘that’s an awesome achievement.” Cavill was feeling less than super in the moment, at least about his ability to fill out the costume: He had just finished shooting a film with Bruce Willis called The Cold Light Of Day, and the part required to him to shed the impressive abs of steel and muscle tone he had put on for the movie he made right before that, the forthcoming mythic fantasy Immortals. As an assistant helped to him put on the Super-suit, Cavill recalls: “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!” Snyder saw something — or rather someone — different. “He walked out, and no one laughed,” says the director. “Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. The idea of celibate vampires is ridiculous, True Blood creator Alan Ball says. "To me, vampires are sex," he says. "I don't get a vampire story about abstinence. I'm 53. I don't care about high school students. I find them irritating and uninformed." On his show, every available orifice is used for intercourse: gay, straight, between humans and supernatural beings, and supernatural being on supernatural being, whether he be werewolf, dog or an enormous Minotaur-looking being called a maenad. None of the sex is quite as good as vampire sex, though, which can happen at the astonishing rhythm of 120 bpm while simultaneously devouring one's neck and making your eyes roll back into your head. Says Stephen Moyer — who plays Bill Compton, the undead Southern Civil War Veteran — "If we go from a base level, vampires create a hole in the neck where there wasn't one before. It's a de-virginization — breaking the hymen, creating blood and then drinking the virginal blood. And there's something sharp, the fang, which is probing and penetrating and moving into it. So that's pretty sexy. I think that makes vampires attractive." He laughs a little. "Plus, Robert Pattinson is just hot, right?"

the vman magazine that hit stores yesterday contained a few choice hotties!

Hot Aussie Xavier Samuel, soon to be seen in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," wears a "Miami Vice"-style white blazer over a T-shirt. Sounds cheesy in theory, looks pretty fantastic in practice. But boys should probably know that this is a look not everyone can pull off. You kind of have to be a vampire heartthrob with perfect white teeth. Just saying.

Fellow Australian Ryan Kwanten returns to our TV screens in "True Blood" in just a few months, but this photo is a good way to tide us over until then. Sadly, his magnificent torso is covered up with a nice button-down. We know he has to wear clothes sometimes, but it's still a bummer. We're loving the adorable hat he's wearing most of all.

We haven't seen much of Noah Mills. 25, at all, but the glimpse at his shiny chest is a fantastic first introduction to the model-turned-actor, who plays Samantha's love interest in the new "Sex and the City 2" movie.

Sorry, we still don't dig Kellan Lutz with his bleached Emmett Cullen hair, but we certainly dig this photo of the man in a suit jacket with no shirt underneath (scandalous!) giving the camera a saucy look. It's no Calvin Klein underwear ad, but we'll take what we can get.

Former Hump Day Hottie Matt Bomer also sports a "Miami Vice" look with his white blazer, all the better to show off the "White Collar" star's piercing eyes. Come back to TV soon, sir!

David Karp, 23, invented Tumblr three years ago because he found blogging platforms impossible to love. Like so many of us who registered for blogs on Wordpress, Blogspot and Moveable Type during the midaughts, only to abandon them weeks later, Karp knew he wanted a space of his own on the Internet but couldn’t find anything that felt right. “I couldn’t keep one of these things up, and I really wanted one,” Karp said recently, speaking from the apartment on the Upper East Side he shares with his girlfriend. “My barrier was that every time I went to post something, I got that big empty text box.”
Tumblr distinguished itself by allowing users to easily share things they came across while surfing the Web, such as pictures, videos and songs. The site launched in 2007; Karp was only 20 at the time but already six years into his career as a software developer, which began when he was a high school freshman as an intern at a New York cartoon production company soon followed by a job at UrbanBaby. com. Karp fell in love with the work and, with his parents’ blessing, dropped out of school so he could devote more time to it. Life went fast after that: Tumblr’s first year catapulted Karp to celebrity status in the New York tech scene, and the young entrepreneur found himself dating a tech reporter for CNET and going out every night of the week to parties and drinks with other online media types. With that first flare of success behind him, Karp is now looking forward to spending less time running around, is moving to the West Village and figuring out a way for Tumblr to turn a profit.

Justin Timberlake, Matt Morris' 'Hope for Haiti Now' cover of 'Hallelujah'

Justin Timberlake, you are the man.

While every performer gave heartfelt performances for the "Hope for Haiti Now" telethon Friday (Jan. 22), the former 'N Sync member gave one of the most moving performances of the night.

Alongside Timberlake was a mystery man in a beanie whom some mistook for Dave Grohl or Ray LaMontagne. Some people on Twitter just resorted to calling him "other dude," tweeting things like, "Justin Timberlake, you're making me cry! (You too, other dude)" or "Justin Timberlake and...and...er, no idea who the other dude is!"

But in fact, that person was Matt Morris, who also has roots in the "Mickey Mouse Club" and is a successful songwriter and musician. He's written stuff for Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson's hit, "Miss Independent."

Check out Justin and Matt singing a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." Have a tissue handy.
